About two weeks ago ( rasanya lah...it could be less...approximately lah...), Abhi, called to invite us for the DJ Village International Post Grad Dinner which will be held on the 080808. Since I am a newbie...and still adjusting my 'beautiful' life here in Adelaide, she wanted me to give a speech that night. And I said Yes. It's like my mouth is having a brain on its own, while my actual brain is saying..."OMG !!! what are you thinkiing?? A speech... I thought u got the nervous break down thingy...!@#$%^&*()_+...."
So, my mouth has said yes and ask Abhi what the content of the speech would be. So i draft the speech. WHo I am, where I am from, Why i am here, what scholarship. am i married, anyone special i left in Malaysia ( no one but just my adorable kucings and yeah, beautiful family tooo.. sorry lupa...),and how i am adjusting to life in adelaide.
And so I wrote the speech.Wahhh... rajin lor ini budak... buat speech but i didn't take a second look at it until i was at the dinner. Kak Nita, Gurbin, Suzie, Izati, Nadia and Sharon, all of us went together with our national costume. Gurbin and sharon wore their punjabi suit and the rest wore baju kurung.
Mingle - mingle at the starter table, talk to Helen , the dean, ( ohhh.. her blouse is so damn cantikkk!!!!) then makan makan...photo session, bersembang till Tandei the resident form Africa alerted me to keep my table quiet. all of us sit together and there's Jun Yi from China, Azzie and Hania form Iran, Shanon from Singapore. Just when i was enjoying my Tiramisu and Baklarva ( i dunno if its the right spelling), Abhi gave me the Q. i am very nervous. Usually, i wil not say what i've written instead, i go blabbing freestyle as the nervousness invade my mouth and my mind. Like i said, my mouth have a seperate brain. he..he...
So, i went to the rostrum.
"Hello and good Evening... Apa Khabar ? Apa khabar is hello in my national language. And when i say Apa khabar, you have to say Khabar baik in return..." And almost every one replied khabar baik... " Goshhh!!! see see... that's not what i planned to say in my speech.. dunno where it comes...
And i talk and talk, and the crowd keeps laughing at all the stories..
the one yang i cannot forget are :
"Back home, my uni is about 5 minutes away from home, i did my diploma, bachelor degree, and Masters there. And my Dean told me, "No...You have to go this time !!"" They laugh again...he..he..
" one thing i luuurve about adelaide is the bus driver..." and the laugh like mad..seriously, the bus driver in adelaide are friendly and helpful. they laugh again when i gave the comparison between the one back home and the ones here.
" my life changes the minute i arrived in Adelaide airport. i unfreeze my self ( although it was Freeeeeezing cold that morning....( and i brag about Kurt Lewin's Theory. the freeze un freeze thingy u learn in Change Management. So, i stopped before i ended up giving them
a lecture on Kurt Lewin's theory.
I am so flattered that they are happy with my speech. One of the residents, Megg, which is also the editor of DJ VIllage's newsletter, told me that the speech is cool and she loved it...he..he..he...ha...ha... So happens, Megg use to occupied my room last year.
Over all, i thank Allah for giving me the sudden courage to deliver the speech and also my mouth's independent brain and of course, my main brain he..he...( luv ya Brain!!! and pleeeese do go blank okay...)
And yeah, thanks to Kak nita, Suzie, Nadya and Gurbin for making the transition process easier and faster.. You guys RAWKKK !!!!!
